  • Iron

Instructions:
  1. Making the book block: cut a strip from cardstock, 2 1/2” wide x 7 1/8” tall. Coat an even coat of tacky glue on one side. Place this strip (glue side down) around the spine on the left side of paper stack for the inside pages. Let dry.

  2. Use torn paper as a stencil and sponge daubers to apply Brilliance ink from the pads. , I sponged on galaxy gold, pearlescent lavender, victorian violet, cosmic copper, and pearlescent ivy onto the front and back pages of the book block. Drill two holes on the left side of the book block 3/4” in from the top and bottom. I used a drill press.

  3. Decorating the leather cover: Squeeze a small amount of Brilliance pearlescent sky blue pigment ink from a refill bottle onto a plastic lid or plastic coated paper plate. Dip a sponge dauber into the ink and use a pouncing motion to apply the ink over the entire leather surface. Let dry.

  4. Next, using a clean sponge dauber, apply pearlescent lavender, let dry. Then apply pearlescent beige. Let dry. Repeat this process on the leather lace. When the leather is completely dry, ink up a shadow stamp with a moonlight white ink pad and stamp all over the leather surface leaving about 1/4” space in between the squares. Let dry.

  5. I used a variety of rubber stamps in pearlescent ivy and pearlescent crimson to stamp patterns inside the squares. I masked the squares and stamped patterns in all the spaces between the squares with a galaxy gold inkpad. Let dry and heat set with an iron to set the inks on the leather journal cover and leather lace.

  6. Sandwich between two sheets of paper towels when ironing. Completing the journal: Place the book block inside the cover and line up the holes. Mark and punch the holes on the leather. Put the ends of the leather lace through both holes and tie a knot at the top hole. Add some ribbons and assorted fibers and tie onto the leather lace.

  7. I made the polymer clay beads using Brilliance inks and rubber stamps and strung them onto a few of the fibers and ribbons.
