VersaMagic™ Vase
By: Judi Kauffman Rubber Stamps – Red Castle, Inc.

Materials:
- Tsukineko VersaMagic

Mango Madness
Persimmon
Pink Grapefruit
Red Magic
Red Brick
Ocean Depth
- Abstract background design rubber stamps, three sizes (unmounted*)
- Large and small motif rubber stamps, 1 large, 1 small (unmounted*)
- Matte finish straight sided ceramic vase
- Optional: Matte acrylic spray
*Unmounted rubber can be bent around the curves and
corners of the vase when images are stamped. Mounted
stamps will not work for the large images in this project
since the vase is not completely flat, though mounted
stamps could be used for the smallest images.
|
Instructions:
- Using
ink pad to apply color, dab Mango Madness, then Persimmon,
then Pink Grapefruit inks onto flat surfaces of vase (more
color at edges).
- Ink
largest unmounted abstract background rubber stamp with Red
Magic and stamp randomly and repeatedly on and around sides
of vase. Bend the stamps as needed to get good impressions,
but don’t worry if the images aren’t perfect since the
background will have several layers of color to hide
imperfections or smudges.
- Ink one
of the smaller unmounted abstract background rubber stamp
with Red Brick and stamp randomly over and between the
larger images. Fill the spaces between the Red Magic and Red
Brick images with a third background pattern stamp inked
with Persimmon. Let inks dry.
- Stamp
large and small motifs using Ocean Depth ink.
- For
added durability, seal with matte finish acrylic spray.
Design
notes and options:
Choose a different palette and different rubber stamps to
create a unique vase that suits your décor. Make sure that
there is a lot of contrast between the stamps in the
background and the final image stamps. The reds, oranges and
pinks of the background recede behind the bright blue motifs
even though they are not pale colors. Your background does
not have to be soft and muted though it can be if that’s the
look you want. The final images don’t have to be big (note
how small the little squares are – the reason they show up
is because they are dark and because they match the color of
the big motif that draws your eye).
