Instructions:

  1. Fuse interfacing on back of muslin. Hang “canvas” on wall.

  2. Using sharp scissors (Fiskar™ Softtouch), and the photograph as your inspiration, cut ironed sky fabric and glue into place with spray adhesive. Heavily starch all remaining fabrics (except borders and backing).

  3. Using the photograph as your guide, cut background mountains and glue into place. Place a layer of netting or tulle over the mountains and sky and pin into place. Using the multi-colored fall foreground fabrics, cut natural looking foliage and glue into place.

  4. Cut and glue remaining foreground fabric into place. Cut and glue bridge, shadow, and roof into place. Cut and glue water fabric into place.

  5. Cut and glue fence into place. Cut natural looking boulders and glue into place. Cut and glue tree into place, adding natural clumps of leaves.

  6. Step back from your design and make corrections as necessary. Once you are happy with your design, stitch to canvas with invisible thread, free-motion, using raw-edge appliqué.

  7. Stitch around edges of each element. Trim away netting from bottom edge of mountains.

  8. Once your design is stitched, place on working wall and begin shading with VersaCraft™. Use your blow dryer to dry between each application of color. Blend colors with eyedropper on paper-plate, if desired.

  9. Fabrico markers can also add more shading.

  10. Barn, barn roof, fence, water, boulders and tree where all shaded with VersaCraft™ and Fabrico markers to create intensity and a variety of values. Once your shading is complete, dry with blow dryer and heat-set inks and pens with a pressing cloth and iron.

  11. DO NOT IRON DIRECTLY ON QUILT TOP – INVISIBLE THREAD WILL MELT AS WILL NETTING OR TULLE.

  12. Using machine threads, machine embroider texture and dimension. Sandwich backing, batting, and top, baste and quilt with desired threads.
